ROTARY AQUA BOXES
The 1st
Weddington Brownie Pack presented the Rotary Club of Arbury with a filled
Aqua Box at their meeting on 10th January 2006.
When disasters hit
communities such as the Tsunami and the earthquake in Pakistan, Rotary
International have a Response Co-ordinator who will carry out an assessment
of the immediate needs of the area working with the relief organisations.
Rotary in Great
Britain stores these boxes of essential items, including a water
purification unit and other household goods we take for granted in this
country. The boxes are taken to people in disaster areas world wide and
distribution is supervised by Rotarians to make sure the help goes to the
right people
The Brownie
Pack have been helping the Rotary Club of Arbury fill an Aqua Box. The box
was provided by the Club and has been filled by the Brownies and now
contains a water purification unit which will provide a family with 1100
litres of drinking water and also essential household tools such as
scissors, knives and cooking utensils to provide families with basic needs.
On Friday 27th
January 2006, the Head Teacher, Mrs Pipe, and pupils of Gun Hill School in
New Arley presented the Rotary Club of Arbury with two Aqua Boxes which
will be kept in store for future disasters which may occur anywhere in the
world.
The School had raised
money at their Harvest Festival Celebrations in the Autumn, bought the boxes
for the Rotary Club, members of the Rotary Club have filled the boxes with
essential items required by people who need the aid when disaster strikes.
Frank Gray, Chairman
of the International Committee of the Rotary Club, said that he was really
pleased the children had responded in the way they had since recently the
stock of boxes has dwindled because of the disasters in the last year so
this help from the pupils of Gun Hill School is very much appreciated.
