COMMUNITY SERVICE and VOCATIONAL COMMITTEE
The ideal of
many Rotarians is probably a desire to put something back into the community
that nurtures them. In our case this takes a number of forms:-
-
Pleasure trips for
handicapped children
-
An annual exhibition,
held in conjunction with local schools, to raise the knowledge of health
and safety in young children.
-
Aid to youth groups ie.
Sea Cadets
-
Work with the local
hospital to spread public awareness of the symptoms of strokes, cancer,
diabetes etc and to encourage organ donors.
-
Assistance to improve
conditions for the elderly ie. donations to old folks clubs and the
organisation of outings.
-
Vocational awards eg.
Person of the Year and student bursaries.

Although a Rotary Club is not basically a
fund-raising body, all Clubs need some money to fund their service work.

The
Rotary Club of Arbury depends mainly on its Christmas and Easter collections at
the town's ASDA Superstore. These involve Santa and his sleigh, and the Easter
Bunny together with sweets or gifts for children.
