Rotarians in the Nuneaton
area have been playing hosts for the last week to a Rotary Foundation
Group Study Exchange Team from Rotary District 4410 which is in south east
Brazil on the Atlantic coast.
The
group attended the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Arbury and are shown

Silvano and a University Lecturer and Business consultant.

Gizela Bosi de Moraes who is an administrator with a large mining company
and Marcela Tessarolo Bastos who is a journalist with a large media group.
The
Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural
and vocational exchange opportunity for business people and professionals
between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers.
The GSE
scheme expands a young professional's career vision, personal goals and
global understanding by meeting and working with peers in another country.
As a result, young professionals will return energised with new ideas and
concepts for their workplace and community.
Young
professionals, called Team Members, stay in homes of Rotary International
members. The exchange is for four weeks and the Team Members stay with
different host families throughout the programme.

Air Cadets Run the Gun
4th July 2010
The annual cadet Field
Gun display has been made possible by the Rotary Club of Arbury who
presented the Ivan Davys Field Guns to the Sea and Air Cadet units in
recognition of the close working relationship between the Rotary Club and
the two cadet organisations.
The Cadet Gun Run,
which has become an annual event at the 30 Signals regiment open day, is
normally a keenly fought challenge between the Air Cadets and the Nuneaton
based Sea Cadets. Unfortunately the Sea Cadets weren't able to take part
again this year so it was all down to two Gun Teams from the Air Cadets to
keep the tradition alive

The Air Cadet display
teams provided a demonstration of teamwork and discipline in the main arena
as they conducted a Field Gun run using scaled replicas of the equipment
traditionally used by the Royal Navy at the Royal Tournament since 1912.
Hundreds of spectators were held spellbound as the two teams of 10 cadets
disassembled, reassembled and manhandled their replica guns and limbers
around a gruelling course.

PRESIDENT DAVID
HELPS
at
POLIO
ERADICATION INITIATIVE
in
Lucknow, Uttah Pradesh, Northern India
February 6/7th
2010

David linked
up with local Rotarians and other volunteers for a Polio awareness Rally and
National Immunisation Days on February 6/7th. This is in India’s
largest state and most crowded with a population of 190 million. On these
days 67 million children can be vaccinated across India. Because the
problem is still so great every child gets the drops 5 times and when the
children get vaccinated their fingers are marked with purple colour.
During his
stay is in India David will also be visiting Mumbai and Delhi where he will
be staying with friends experiencing life in these very crowded Cities for
short periods.

Rotary Shelterbox Appeal to help relieve the devastation caused by the
recent earthquake in Haiti.
A collection held on Saturday 23 January in the Market Place of Nuneaton
town centre was supported most generously and it means two more shelter
boxes are now on their way
PRESIDENT DAVID
prepares
for his POLIO PLUS mission to India

David
is among a party of 34 Rotary volunteers travelling to the historic city of
Lucknow in North East India on 2 February to take part in a National
Immunisation Day (NID) in the effort to eradicate polio from the world.
David says ‘The target is
to immunise over two days 157million children aged under five years. As you
can imagine an army of volunteers, including local Rotarians and health
staff, are required to participate in this massive undertaking. It’s a real
community effort requiring a huge publicity campaign beforehand to tell
people about the NID.’
‘We live in a global village. What is India’s problem today,
could become our problem tomorrow. We must pledge our support to the
dedication and commitment of the people involved in eradicating polio.’
Thanks for Life / End
Polio Now video is now available on youtube (12 minutes)
